What Is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a science that deals with the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands which correspond to all the glands, organs and parts of the body. It is a unique method of using the thumb and fingers on these reflex areas.

The body is divided into ten different zones which extends into the feet and the hands. Each area of the foot corresponds to a specific organ or part of the body. Nerves that pass through the body’s organs and muscles terminate in the hands and feet.

Applying pressure to a particular area of the foot or hand stimulates the flow of energy, blood, nutrients and nerve impulses to its corresponding zone of the body. Crystalline deposits of uric acid and calcium that form at the nerve endings prevent the nerve from functioning at its peak efficiency. Pressure applied to the reflex points disintegrates crystalline deposits on the nerve endings.

This also affects the entire nerve as well as those muscles and organs it innervates. Once crushed, crystalline deposits can be reabsorbed back into the body and excreted in the urine. Reflexology stimulates the body’s own natural healing mechanism.

How Reflexology Works

There are ten energy zones that run the length of the body from head to toe. Five on each side of the body ending in each foot and running down the arms into the tips of the fingers. All the organs and parts of the body lay along one or more of these zones. Each line represents a zone. If imbalance is found in one area, it may be caused by an area in a corresponding zone.

Remember the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body. This can cause referral areas. Working the reflex area on the foot will revitalize and balance the entire zone and improve functioning of the organs. Good health depends on balance, equilibrium and the natural functioning of all the body systems.
